44th Annual Spring in the South April 25-26 2026

May 1, 2026

The weekend of May 6th and 7th, Mike Duray, Patrick Heffley, Hossein Amorani, Jon Hamlin, Shihas Razak and April George traveled to Chapel Hill, North Carolina for more group training at the 44th annual Spring in the South gathering hosted by Chapel Hill Shotokan. Participants came from around the United States, Curaçao and Canada. Frank Lee, Godan from Los Angeles came to lead 3 practices. The two practices on Saturday were a vigorous review of fundamentals, kata and basic kumite. Sunday’s practice upped the intensity, working to develop strong attacks and then learning to disrupt the attack and deliver a strong and accurate counter at the moment the attacker decides to begin to move.

Saturday evening’s banquet at Sitar Indian restaurant in Durham, was excellent and offered the opportunity for getting together with old friends and making many new ones.

Special thanks to the Lynch family, Collin, Min, Ka Quing and Kai Yi for being such good friends and wonderful hosts and taking such good care of our little group.
